Letter Writing for the Office

Business leaders today too often complain that business graduates cannot write properly, or dictate a phrase, much less a sentence, paragraph, or complete letter. This most important subject all too often is not taught in any department and yet is urgently needed by business and industry.

LWFTO is not just a business correspondence course, with related coverage of normal production typing fundamentals, nor is it a mere compilation of business letters. Emphasis is on how to write.

First thirty lessons emphasize word selection, as well as comprehensive lists of words and phrases which no longer should be used. This is followed by phrase selection and placement, followed by sentence construction and composition. Explains why a certain type of word should not be used at a particular place in a sentence. This is a practical and effective method of learning to write for any office.

Various major medical diseases and deficiencies are discussed, how these specialized areas expanded, words which are pertinent to each, and how to construct these words. This program qualifies the student to estimate the meaning of medical terms on first encounter. Cardiovascular diseases, with emphasis on damage caused by smoking; also gastrointestinal problems, and areas of dentistry—with problems, vocabularies, and terminology related thereto.

Typing: Ten-second Stroking Drill

This single-cassette program is designed for one thing alone: to provide the teacher with a profile of kinesthetic response patterns for the first, second, third, and fourth fingers of both hands. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “key location” — only how fast the individual fingers can be pushed to respond, for ten seconds, over a reasonable number of days. Such a profile can provide the observant teacher with considerable insight as to a student’s basic speed potential.

What’s Wrong with the Typewriter Keyboard

This little program carefully explains to students what’s wrong with the typewriter keyboard and how it all came about — the fact that the left hand does approximately twice as much typing as the right, the over-assignment to weak third and fourth fingers, etc. As these matters are discussed, special drills are provided to help the student “overcome” the keyboard’s inherent weaknesses.
